Match notes
Only 120.000 fans showed up in the blistering cold to see Black Widows secure a fine 3rd place in their rookie season.

A blizzard howled over the BB stadium during the entire match. DD already had both a 2nd and a 3rd in Aros, and instead of using their treasury on Count Luthor they had bought a new Wight Mr. Stone Cold. BW on the other hand felt quite different about the matter and they both hired a wizard and Hthark the Unstoppable using almost all their money.

On top of this their dirty player Grimtoof was playing like an iron man, whereas Super Star Mummy Ramses the 5th did not feel like playing in the snow and claimed he was niggled by an old injury.

Hence DD only had one mummy and 12 players ready against a wizard, 3 bulls and 15 players. So even with some brilliant coaching DD could do nothing right after kicking off to BW and were soon too few on the pitch to put up any serious resistance.

For a second it looked good when Ra took down Hthark and Xorn gave him a serious concussion in a foul, but the apo saved the expensive player from leaving the pitch in turn 1. And when DD tried again next turn on the minotaur Xooh, Argos was send of even though the cow was only stunned.

Then the remaining mummy Ra was fouled KO by Grimtoof, and when Enasni the Death Eater had a chance to take a hit on ball carrier Smelldum he fell due to the heavy snow and was KOed too. After one more KO DD’s remaining 7 players tried to stay clear of the dwarfs, but hence there were no heat on the ball carrier and Smelldum scored in BW last turn of the half. 0-1.

Only one of the KOs came in for the last of DD’s turns, and it could have gone wrong when BW blitzed one final time. But for the second half at least Ra came back in. But DD only had 10 players ready. Even with the blitz DD’s top ghoul Mean Midget managed to complete a pass, and thus he became an emerging star increasing his speed for next season.

Once again BW blitzed down DD’s pitch. Two times in a row! The ball was kicked nicely close to the LoS by their kicker Pipigag, but still Hthark did not dare go for it in the snow, and was only putting his TZ on the square the ball would land in. When a hobgobo almost fell when he tried to reach the square, BW decided it was not worth going for. And boy where they right. Cause the ball jumped straight into the arms of huge and strong Hthark, who caught it perfectly.

What could DD do now? They really had no weapon to stop Hthark the Unstoppable and soon the new Wight Mr. Stone Cold was SI in a failed dodge. He did though regenerate. But still DD fought well and first Ra KOed the mino Xooh who failed to wake up for the reminder of the match, and then the two ghouls played a mean trick on the Widows by making one more Cowtauer just that!

Hoonaz had put his TZ on Enasni the Death Eater, and that proved fatal. Cause Enasni the Death Eater took a chance and tried to push the bull himself. And the bull chose to be pushed rather than to fall (arrow, both down his choice), and then suddenly he was standing next to the sideline, and BAM! The blitz by Mean Midget, who had assist from Enasni the Death Eater, send the bull right into the crowd, and it was to DD’s fans. Infuriated with the unfair blitzes by BW, they separated the bulls’ front from his rear killing him quite thoroughly in the process.

Necromancer Kynde immediately stepped up and reanimated the front part of Hoonaz into a zombie. And next drive his front leg and torso got up onto the LoS as Hoonaz reanimated much to the consternation of his former team-mates!

But now nothing prevented Hthark from scoring for 0-2 early in 2nd half.

Once again DD received the ball, now with an extra zombie but still only 10 players as Xorn was thrown out for a stunning foul before the TD by Hthark. It seemed like BW had the perfect defence, and when DD managed to get the ball into a beautiful cage, it was utterly destroyed by Widows Wizard! He melted the snow away under 3 of the 6 players that could have been affected by the fire ball, KOing both S. Finxter and the new zombie Hoonaz reanimated. But ball carrier Enasni the Death Eater stayed on his feet also when Zigggree blitzed him.

A whole was then opened in the dwarf defence and Enasni the Death Eater dodged away and ran for it. Some great dodges later DD was standing quite well, but still Zigggree could reach the ghoul and he was almost there to blitz him, when he slipped in the snow. Then nothing could prevent Enasni the Death Eater from reducing to 1-2. And still 3 turns were left, and no wizard or RR were left to help BW.

But even with a rock hitting Zigggree (stunning him) and with Smelldum failing to pick up the ball, DD could not get at him before their last turn. Though some brilliant blocking and some perfect dodging and pushing it in the snow gave S. Finxter a chance to take a hit on Smelldum he was the weakest, and ended up going down himself, thus ending the match in favour of the Widows.

The Widows MVP Porkfoot had no idea why he was selected but he learned to guard from it. It was easier to explain why the TD scorer Enasni the Death Eater received DD’s MVP and from that he learned Side Step.

Both teams earned 50 k and BW increased their FF but at least not on account of DD’s fan base.

DD obviously was going for the gold this season and were very disappointed about playing for 3rd, but although Widows also had a serious shoot at the title, it must be said that taking 3rd place in their first season was quite a feat. Congrats to them on that!
